Rides to Treatment Help Save the Lives of Cancer Patients

We have all heard the expression ‘there is no such thing as a free ride,’ but for some local cancer patients, a free ride is not just a nice gesture, it is a lifeline to life-saving treatment. For Little Red Door client, Terry Wright, a ride to the doctor, is something that made Wright’s cancer treatable. “One time I have to go to Wishard and one time IU and I was just worried to death about how I was going to get to all of my appointments,” said Wright. Wright does not have a car. Without the lift, she might never make it to her bladder cancer treatments.

Now, she is filled with hope. “The drivers are just wonderful,” said Wright. “They get out and open the door for you and everything, they’re just beautiful. That is one worry that I don’t have to worry about now. That took a lot of stress off of me, knowing I had a way to my doctor’s appointments. ” Wright said.

Little Red Door’s transportation program is funded through unrestricted general operating funds. The need is increasing. This year, the clients requesting rides from LRD have doubled. On average each client requires 22 trips. Click here If you would like to make a donation.
