“For many years it has been an extreme privilege to help support the great work of Camp Little Red Door. Our small contributions combined with the great group of professional volunteers provide kids with cancer (and their families) with a great week of fun.”

CAMP LITTLE RED DOOR
Golf Tournament Hits New Level

The Camp Little Red Door Golf Tournament was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort and it was a picture-perfect day to be on the golf course. Bob Grand, Tournament Chair, led the success of this fundraiser to a new level with gross revenue of $105,000. Proceeds from this charity golf outing are used exclusively to fund our week-long Camp Little Red Door that is held each summer for children, ages 8-18, who have received a cancer diagnosis.

We are so grateful for Bob Grand's commitment to the annual Camp Little Red Door Golf Tournament. Bob has been the Tournament Chair for at least the last 15 years and has enabled more than 1,000 children to attend camp. Camp Little Red Door allows children to meet other kids who are dealing with the same issues, creates life-long friendships and memories, and provides an opportunity for all kinds of fun activities. Bob Grand is passionate about raising more money each year so that more children can attend Camp Little Red Door without worrying about the $900 registration fee. With the help of Bob and all of our very generous sponsors, the cost for camp is virtually paid for.

Special thanks to Mayor Ballard for taking time to be with us during the awards ceremony and making some very touching remarks and recognition of Joshua Shipley who received the Virginia Wagner Award as "Camper of the Year" for his leadership skills. Joshua first started attending Camp Little Red Door at the age of 8 and graduated from the program since he has now turned 18. Joshua has enlisted in the Army so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Contagious Laughter at Camp Little Red Door

The smiles and contagious laughter of 70 campers and their siblings indicated a camp filled with joy and happiness. Camp Little Red Door welcomed the campers July 27 - August 1, 2008 at Bradford Woods in Martinsville, Indiana. The children, ages 8-18, took part in a variety of camp activities such as horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, crafts, and challenge courses. To make their experience carefree, each camper received a goody bag that included a camp T-shirt, disposable camera, sunscreen, insect repellant and various other camping items.

Without the support of local businesses, board members, Circle of Friends and the general public, the wonderful items for the bags would not have been made possible. Thank you for your contribution and continued support.

Camp Little Red Door is unique in that we offer 24-hour medical care from local doctors and nurses to attend to the special needs of our campers. We would like to thank Dr. Robert Goulet, Dr. Erica Rager, Dr. Pat Loeher, Dr. Chie-Schin Shih, Dr. Mark Heiny; and nurses/nurse practitioners Sharon Tormoehlen, Stephanie Perry, Elaine Southwood, Janel Andruskiewicz, Julie Strong, Lindsay Dunkle, Meredith McMahan and Larissa Wichman. Your support and expertise is greatly appreciated!

For children who have been diagnosed with cancer, Camp Little Red Door is an opportunity to connect with other children sharing similar circumstances. Campers can relate to each other on the difficulties associated with a cancer diagnosis and the joys of remission. With the expertise and knowledge from Woods' staff and the volunteer medical staff, the campers are able to get out of a hospital setting and enjoy being a kid again. Camp Little Red Door provides a place of understanding, acceptance, healing, friendship and pure childhood joy.
